ALKABO, NORTH DAKOTA
We visited Alkabo, at the northwest corner of North Dakota, because Joan's grandfather and other relatives homesteaded there at the turn of the century.
This is Alkabo's main street. The school, at the end of the street, was built in 1932 but closed in 1962.
Cousin Elaine, who lives in the town, stands with Joan in front of the school.
Eventhough the school has been closed for over 40 years, Elaine, her husband George, and others in the town, keep the school in great shape.
This classroom, with desks, maps, and chalkboards are ready for students.
The gym is amazing. Ready for a game. Sonny, who owned a performing arts theater, was especially impressed with the stage.
We spent a wonderful day in Alkabo with cousin Elaine, her husband, George, and some of the townfolk.
